Consumerism

« Back to Glossary Index

Consumerism refers to all actions taken to defend and protect the interests of consumers. In France, associations such as UFC Choisir actively participate in this movement by offering consumers relevant information on products or services. Some magazines also defend the rights of consumers by offering comparisons between products in the same category. Although the word sounds new, consumerism has been around since the 1960s. The movement was initiated in the United States by the now famous lawyer Ralph Nader.
