Nielsen (panel)

« Back to Glossary Index

Nielsen is a world leader in audience collection, analysis and knowledge. To help companies understand their customers’ behavior, Nielsen offers panel research.

A panel is a sample of people specifically chosen to represent a larger group of people. Although smaller, the sample has the same demographic characteristics as the group it represents. The people who make up the sample also exhibit behaviors similar to those of the people in the group.

In particular, the panel allows Nielsen to:
– Understand the behavior of a larger population without having to come into contact with each individual in the population,
– Know exactly what programs consumers like to watch on TV,
– Know how much time they spend listening to the radio,
– know which radio programs they like to listen to.

The information collected through the Nielsen panel provides a clear picture of how consumers perceive and engage with media.
