Private label

« Back to Glossary Index

As the name suggests, a private label is a brand owned by a retailer. The latter uses it to sell all kinds of products that meet the needs of consumers. These products are manufactured either by independent manufacturers or by production subsidiaries belonging to the brand itself.

The private label has been very successful for a few years. This is due in particular to the prices of their products, which are lower than those of the major brands. In addition, private label products often enjoy a privileged position on the shelves. The private label can have an eponymous name. This is the case, for example, of the Casino brand. However, some distributors choose to give their brand a different and specific name.
